Kashmir: Paradise Lost.

Last few weeks we all have witnessed the violence in Jammu and Kashmir. The media potrayed both sides of the story. But what the media did not potray was the history of J & K. I remember when I was in school, we were never told about this dispute between India and Pakistan. School text books used to show the political map of India. In standard 10, the history book mentioned the divided, where it said Pakistan has occupied 1/3rd of Kashmir and China has occupied Asai Chin. I was bewildered by these statements, I asked my parents what this meant. To my surprise they did not know of this.
The Indian government always had this policy of hiding the real issues. Waiting for them to explode. Since 1995 we hear the word LOC and wonder why media did not cover this earlier.

To me Kashmir is a disputed area. The very creation of Pakistan was to integrate the Muslim majority areas which included Kashmir. I think as long as Mahatma Gandhi was alive the concept of the two nations was alive. As soon as he died. This idea was abandoned and the idea "Might is right" was imposed.

Today things are out of hand. There is a deep hatred. This cannot go unless some form of autonomy is provided to Kashmir. I believe there is going to be no peace, unless India talks.

India is strong, stronger than Pakistan. But have we become arrogant with pride. Partition is never a solution. Integration is a solution, but I cite the Examples of Yugoslavia, Czechosolvakia and the USSR. These were multi-ethnic and multi religious countries. All have but collapsed. The governments tried their best to hold them together by force. This resulted in a large loss of life.
I see that happening in India too. It bleeds, economically and socially.

Fear and Hate destroy nations. Nation building cannot rest on these foundations. Is it pride, or false pride.

The Eagles of our society should see where are they taking people to. Jim Rogers as person whose wisdom I admire, believes India will collapse into smaller states.

I see it visible. The government has to provide some autonomy esp with regard to taxes to the states. The rise of regional parties symbolises the aspirations of the people on local issues. National issues are less important to the people.

Kashmir has been lost, lets not loose ourselves.

I had just one through a blog recently posted by some B K Das which reads as:-

“AND WE DID IT”
16th. March 2008, over a feast at Jammu, in honour of our Muslim neighbour in kashmir while chatting, I asked Mohumud Yousuf Qureshi to educate me about the Kashmir Issue. He plainly said: “We hardly know what Kashmir Issue is. We are told for settlement of the Kashmir Issue. We feel there must be some issue known to our exploiters. So we second the slogan”. In 1947, the issue was to chase Pakistan forces from Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla and Kupwara. And we did it with a stick and slogan:”Hamla aver khaburdar hum kashmiri hain teiar”. 1953, the slogan was for plebiscite and we did it. 1975 we were asked to bury the slogan of plebiscite and we buried it. 1975 we were asked to welcome the PM of India in a river procession and follow Shiekh Abdullah’s instructions and we raised the slogan brinjal or gourd Shiekh makes us, we agree to his dictations. We danced to the tune” Ale karenga wangun karenga bubh karenga bub karenga. 1965 we were asked to social boycott the Indian Congress and one Muslim son burnt the coffin of his mother who had died at the residence of her son affiliated to the Indian national Congress. 1975 Shiekh formed the government over the majority of the Congress MLAs; we welcomed the congress gesture despite our 1965 boycott. We were asked to mourn the death of Bhutoo or the Shiekh, we did it. We were asked to burn and destroy the orchards of Jamat Islamis for Butoo’s assassination in Pakistan, we did it in Kashmir. To avenge his downfall in 1984, Farooq conspired and we were asked to send our children for military training across the border and we did it. Now our children in POK(Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) got there married and they have their own family and children there. We are asked to lodge a missing report here in Kashmir and we did it to defame the government and the security forces. We were asked to hound Kashmiri Pundits in 1990 and we did it. We were asked to spread rumours that Jag Mohan asked KPs to quit and we did it. 1990 we were asked to welcome the hounded raiders of 1947 as our friends and we did it. 1965 we were asked to sell Pakistani infiltrators, and we did it.
Despite all we did, we have yet not been told what the issue is. We are indebted to Kashmiri Pundits who have given us education. Now we have a ray of hope in Prabu Chawla and his crew who may educate us as to what the issue is. We followed Shiekh Abdullah and other Abdullahs from 1931, we followed Maulvis and all we did has proved a futile exercise. Duplicate Gandhi Shabir Shah from Kashmir has amassed wealth unlike the real Mahatma Gandhi. Paupers have become masters of multi trillions. Kashmir issue is an issue of the hen that lays golden eggs. It is a matter of bread and butter for trillions of people. It will never come to an end. It will madden the whole world not to speak of NDTV or India Today, Priety Zinta, Director Shekhar Kapur.
Prabu Chawla and his crew may please translate the issue in common man’s language to educate both Brijdass and Muhammad Yousuf Qureshi. We shall be both indebted to Aroon Purie & Prabu Chawla.

This in my view is also a very important and critical aspect of we kashmiris', we have been always told a half truth by our leaders for the reasons best known to them.

The first step towards what u described very well as " God helps those who helps themselves" is by knowing where our roots fall in,

I request all those who feel there is something called as logic and reasoning to go through the historical events of kashmir which led to this conflict, the factual things how kashmir has been cheated by India and Pakistan both and what are the basis of this conflict.
People are becoming emotional without knowing the actual reason, they are being killed here, women molested and raped, children crushed and no body dares to ask why, why are we being treated like animals.
We kashmiris need to know our history, how the Maharaja entered into accession with India, how valid is that document, what were the terms and conditions, how the plebiscite came into existence, what is the UNOs' stand, how many resolutions have been passed? What treaties have been signed between India and Pakistan what are the terms and conditions governing those treaties?
There are high level human rights violations going on in the Kashmir and no one gives a damn just because we dont know the basics of the story.

This is my humble submission to all so they start thinking on common ground and not like ask for Pakistan on one hand and freedom/ independence on the other.

This is the high time that we kashmiris should stand now and fight this battles of ours ourselves without asking of begging for something from somebody. This is our fight and we need to take it till our last breath (Insha Allal)
